Multiply length by width of the surface. Split an L-shape into rectangles and add them.
A residential driveway is usually 5 cm (2 in); a heavily used surface may need 7.5-10 cm.

Compacted hot-mix is roughly 2.3-2.5 t/m3 (140-155 lb/ft3); 2.4 t/m3 is a safe default.
t/m³
Extra for trimming edges, the paver and uneven base. 5-10% is typical.

A typical tri-axle delivery truck carries about 18-22 tonnes (20-25 US tons) of hot-mix.

Order about 6.6 t of asphalt (base 6 t plus your waste allowance).

  • Tonnage is paved area times compacted thickness times density, that gives the volume first, then the weight in tonnes.
  • Keep the thickness as the finished compacted depth; loose mix is laid thicker and rolled down to size.
  • That is about 1 truck load; hot-mix cools fast, so plan continuous delivery rather than topping up later.

Next stepRound up to the nearest practical load your supplier delivers, and confirm the mix type for the traffic the surface will carry.
