The FDA label doses patients aged 6 months through 12 years by weight and patients 13 years and older with the fixed adult dose. A child at or above 43 kg receives the same 600 mg/day maximum as an adult.

Select the infection being treated. All indications share the same standard dose but differ in treatment duration. Acute bacterial otitis media, acute maxillary sinusitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis and uncomplicated skin infections are the FDA-approved pediatric indications; community-acquired pneumonia and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis are approved for patients 13 years and older only.
Activate for patients with a creatinine clearance below 30 mL/min. The dose is halved to once-daily administration.
Cefdinir oral suspension is available in 125 mg/5 mL and 250 mg/5 mL concentrations. The 125 mg/5 mL formulation is more common.

  • The recommended dose is 140.0 mg every 12 hours, for a total daily dose of 280 mg.
  • At 20.0 kg, the dose is 7.0 mg/kg per administration.
  • Using 125 mg/5 mL suspension, give 5.6 mL per dose.
  • For pharyngitis / tonsillitis, the standard course is 5-10 days.
