DIC Syndrome Calculator - ISTH Scoring System

Your details

Thrombocytopenia is one of the earliest and most reliable signs of DIC. Select the closest bracket for the most recent count.
D-dimer or fibrin degradation products (FDPs). Select the degree of elevation relative to the upper limit of normal (ULN) for your laboratory.
Prothrombin time prolongation beyond the upper limit of normal reflects consumption of clotting factors. The ISTH algorithm uses the prolongation in seconds above ULN rather than an absolute value.
Fibrinogen is an acute-phase reactant, so it can remain within the reference range early in DIC even as other parameters deteriorate. A level below 1 g/L indicates significant consumption.

ISTH DIC Score: 0/8 - not suggestive of overt DIC.

  • The score is low and not suggestive of overt DIC at this time. If clinical suspicion persists, reassess with updated laboratory values.
  • ISTH scoring is a supportive tool and must be interpreted alongside the full clinical picture, underlying diagnosis, and symptom trajectory.

Next stepRepeat the score in 24-48 hours if clinical suspicion remains. Monitor platelet trends, fibrinogen, and coagulation tests serially.
