FIP Calculator

Your details

Total home runs the pitcher has surrendered during the period being evaluated.
Total bases on balls (walks) issued by the pitcher.
Batters hit by the pitcher's pitch. These are included alongside walks.
Intentional walks are subtracted from total walks because they represent a deliberate strategic choice, not uncontrolled wildness.
Total strikeouts recorded by the pitcher.
Use decimal form where each third of an inning is 0.333. Most scorecards show partial innings as .1 and .2 (one out and two outs), which equal 0.333 and 0.667 true innings.
Total fly balls allowed. Used only for xFIP, which normalises your HR/FB rate to the league average (~10.5%). Leave at 0 to skip xFIP.
The FIP constant is added so that league-average FIP equals league-average ERA. The 2022-2024 MLB constant is approximately 3.17. You can enter a season-specific value or derive it from full league totals.

FIP of 3.11 is excellent by MLB standards.

  • K/9 of 9.00 is above average (MLB average is roughly 8.5 per 9).
  • BB+HBP per 9 of 1.92 indicates excellent control (MLB average is roughly 3.0).
  • HR/9 of 0.90 is elite (MLB average is roughly 1.1-1.2).
  • xFIP of 3.13 is very close to FIP, suggesting the HR rate is close to what league-average fly-ball rates would predict.

Next stepTo dig deeper, compare FIP to ERA: a FIP well below ERA often signals a pitcher whose ERA will improve with normal defensive support.
