Acute musculoskeletal pain starts with a single 0.2 mg/kg oral dose on Day 1; chronic musculoskeletal pain starts at 0.1 mg/kg. Post-operative pain is different: the 0.2 mg/kg starting dose is given by your vet as an injection, and the oral suspension only continues treatment 24 hours later at 0.05 mg/kg. All indications then use 0.05 mg/kg once daily.

Day 1 oral dose for post-operative pain: 0.200 mg (12 drops).

  • For a 4.0 kg cat, the first oral dose is 0.200 mg (0.40 mL / 12 drops) of Metacam 0.5 mg/mL, given 24 hours after the vet's 0.2 mg/kg meloxicam injection. There is no higher oral loading dose for post-operative pain.
  • From Day 2 onward, give 0.200 mg (0.40 mL / 12 drops) once daily with or after food.
  • The full 5-day course requires approximately 2.00 mL of suspension.
  • Always use the calibrated dropper supplied with the product - kitchen drops vary in size and can cause under- or over-dosing.
