Age in Minutes Calculator
Enter your date of birth and an optional end date to see exactly how many minutes you have been alive. The result panel also breaks your age down into seconds, hours, days, weeks, and months so you can appreciate every unit of time you have lived. The show-your-work panel walks through each conversion step.
How your age in minutes is calculated
The calculator finds the exact number of whole days between your date of birth and the chosen end date, then multiplies by 1,440 (the number of minutes in a day: 24 hours x 60 minutes). This approach correctly handles leap years because it counts real calendar days rather than applying an average year length to years individually. The result is then divided by 60 for hours, 7 for weeks, 30.4369 for months, and 365.2425 for years. All values are truncated rather than rounded so you always see a number you have fully lived, not one you are partway through.
Why count your age in minutes?
Years compress enormous stretches of time into a single digit. Seeing your age in minutes (say, 19 million) makes the scale of your life vivid in a way that "36 years" does not. Psychologists call this temporal re-framing: expressing time in smaller units tends to make people feel their remaining time is more abundant and motivates present-focused decisions. Researchers at the University of Michigan found that when people thought of their future in days rather than years, they were more likely to begin saving for retirement or start a health goal. Knowing your exact minute count is also a fun party fact, and it makes an excellent personalized gift number.
Fun facts about minutes in a lifetime
The average global life expectancy (about 72 years) amounts to roughly 37.9 million minutes. A newborn who sleeps the recommended 16 hours a day burns through about 960 minutes of sleep daily. By age 30 you have spent approximately 4.7 million minutes asleep, assuming 8 hours a night as an adult. The human heart beats about 70 times per minute, so a 30-year-old has had roughly 1.1 billion heartbeats. At 15 breaths per minute, that same person has drawn around 237 million breaths. Converting age to minutes is also widely used in pediatrics: neonatal care teams track very premature infants in minutes and hours because rapid physiological changes make day-level precision insufficient.
How to use the end-date field
By default the end date is set to today, giving your current age in minutes. You can change it to any past or future date to answer questions like "how many minutes old will I be on my next birthday?" or "how many minutes did my grandparent live?" To find a future milestone - for example, when you will hit 20 million minutes - enter approximate future dates until the output reaches the target. The milestone table on this page gives rough ages in years for the most common round-number milestones so you can narrow down the search quickly.

Frequently asked questions
How many minutes are in a year?
One calendar year contains 365 days x 24 hours x 60 minutes = 525,600 minutes. A leap year adds one extra day, giving 527,040 minutes. When calculating over many years, using the average of 365.2425 days per year (which accounts for the leap-year cycle) gives 525,949 minutes per average year.
How do I calculate my age in minutes?
Count the total number of days from your date of birth to today, then multiply by 1,440. For example, a 30-year-old has lived roughly 10,957 days (30 x 365.25), and 10,957 x 1,440 = about 15,778,080 minutes. This calculator does the exact day count automatically, including leap years.
How many minutes old is a 1-year-old?
A child on their first birthday has lived either 365 or 366 days depending on whether a leap day fell in that year. In minutes: 365 x 1,440 = 525,600 or 366 x 1,440 = 527,040. On average, a 1-year-old is about 525,960 minutes old.
At what age do you hit 1 million minutes?
1,000,000 minutes is 1,000,000 / 1,440 = 694.4 days, which is about 1 year and 10.5 months. Most people cross the 1-million-minute mark before their second birthday.
At what age do you hit 10 million minutes?
10,000,000 / 1,440 = 6,944 days, equal to about 19 years. The 10-million-minute birthday typically falls around a 19th birthday, give or take a few weeks depending on the exact birth date and leap years.
Why does the calculator use 365.2425 days per year?
The Gregorian calendar adds a leap day every 4 years, skips it on century years, but adds it back on years divisible by 400. This yields an average year length of 365.2425 days. The calculator avoids this average entirely for the main calculation: it counts exact calendar days between your two dates, which is more accurate than applying any annual average.
Can I calculate how many minutes someone else lived?
Yes. Enter the person's date of birth in the first field and the date they passed away in the end-date field. The calculator will show the total minutes of their life across all output units.
