How the dog food calculator works
This calculator uses the two-step formula endorsed by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the Pet Nutrition Alliance. First, resting energy requirement (RER) is calculated with the equation 70 x (body weight in kg)^0.75. This gives the calories your dog needs at full rest just to maintain basic bodily functions. Choosing the right life-stage multiplier
