How we build & check our calculators

OnlyCalculators is rebuilt around a simple principle: a calculator should be as trustworthy as it is fast. Here is exactly how every tool on this site is made, sourced and reviewed.

One tool, one sourced formula

Each calculator is defined by a single, typed specification: its inputs, its outputs, and the exact formula that connects them. We start from an authoritative source, a standards body, a peer-reviewed reference, or an established textbook, and implement that formula directly, rather than copying numbers from another website. The formula and a worked example are shown on the page so you can check our arithmetic yourself.

Built to handle the awkward cases

Real inputs are messy. Every calculator is tested against the edge cases that quietly break lesser tools, zero and negative values, empty fields, unit switches and extreme magnitudes. When an input doesn't yet make sense, we show a neutral "enter values" state instead of a misleading NaN or a wrong number. Calculations are deterministic and run entirely in your browser.

Owned and reviewed by a named specialist

Every tool is assigned to one of our 20 subject-matter experts, a physician for health tools, a certified financial planner for money tools, a professional engineer for construction tools, and so on. That person is responsible for the formula, the explanation and the edge-case behaviour, and their name and credentials appear on the page. You can read each expert's full profile on our experts page.

Health, finance and other high-stakes topics

For "your money or your life" topics, health, finance, safety, we hold ourselves to a higher bar. These tools are explicitly labelled, carry the relevant professional disclaimer, and cite their sources on the page. They are designed for general information and education and are never a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who knows your situation.

Accuracy, updates and corrections

Each calculator records when it was published and last updated. When a standard changes, a source is revised, or a reader reports an issue, we update the tool and its explanation. If you spot something that looks wrong, we want to hear about it, accuracy is the whole point.

Speed and privacy are features

The site is static and edge-cached, so pages load almost instantly. There are no ad scripts inside the calculators and no account is required. Because the math runs in your browser, the numbers you enter are never sent to us.
