Common Uses and Real-Number Examples
- Running pace and race time prediction. If you run 5 kilometers in 27 minutes, your pace is 5:24 per kilometer (or about 8:41 per mile). A running pace calculator projects your 10K finish time at the same pace as 54 minutes and your half-marathon time as roughly 1:53:59, while also adjusting for the slower paces most runners maintain over longer distances.

Heart rate training zones divide your maximum heart rate into ranges, each corresponding to a different physiological stimulus. Zone 2 (roughly 60 to 70% of max heart rate) builds aerobic base and fat-burning efficiency. Zone 4 (roughly 80 to 90%) develops lactate threshold and race-pace fitness. MET values measure the intensity of an activity relative to rest: sitting is about 1 MET, walking is 3 to 4, running is 8 to 12 depending on speed. Multiplying MET by body weight in kilograms by duration in hours gives approximate calories burned.

One-rep max formulas are estimates, and different formulas (Epley, Brzycki, Lander) produce slightly different results, especially at higher rep counts above 10.
