Star Wars Marathon Calculator

Plan your perfect Star Wars binge by choosing how much of the galaxy far, far away you want to cover, the order you want to watch it in, and how many hours per day you can spare. The calculator totals up the runtime, adds your breaks, and tells you exactly how many days your marathon will take.

How the calculator works

Select your Jedi rank to pick which films and series are included, then choose your viewing order. The calculator sums every title's runtime, adds inter-title breaks, and divides by your daily viewing hours to give a day count. The viewing schedule table shows you every title in order with its runtime and start offset so you can plan session breaks.

Viewing orders explained

Release Order follows the dates films and series were released to the public, starting with Episode IV in 1977. Chronological Order follows the in-universe timeline from the High Republic era through to the Sequel Trilogy. Machete Order is a fan-created sequence that skips The Phantom Menace entirely and inserts Episodes II and III as a "flashback" between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. This preserves the Darth Vader reveal for first-time viewers while still explaining the prequels' backstory.

How much Star Wars is there?

The Skywalker Saga alone clocks in at around 22 hours of film. Add the two standalone movies (Rogue One and Solo) and you approach 27 hours of cinema. Once you include the Disney+ live-action shows the total surpasses 43 hours. Adding all the animated series - Clone Wars, Rebels, Bad Batch, and more - pushes the total past 124 hours. The full Jedi Grand Master package tops 140 hours of content and keeps growing as new series are released.

Tips for a great marathon

Plan a 10-15 minute break between titles to stretch and hydrate. For multi-day marathons, finishing on a natural story break (end of a trilogy, for example) helps retain energy. If you are introducing someone new to Star Wars, Machete Order or straight Release Order both work well. Chronological Order suits fans who already know the story and want to appreciate foreshadowing across decades of storytelling.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to watch all Star Wars movies?

The eleven canonical films (Episodes I-IX plus Rogue One and Solo) run approximately 26 hours and 49 minutes in total. Watching them at a comfortable pace of 6 hours per day takes around 4-5 days.

What is Machete Order?

Machete Order is a fan-created viewing sequence proposed by Rob Hilton in 2011. It runs Episodes IV, V, then jumps to II and III as a flashback explaining Anakin's backstory, then returns to VI, VII, VIII, IX. Episode I is skipped entirely. The order aims to protect the twist in Episode V for first-time viewers while still providing prequel context.

Should I include The Clone Wars animated series?

The Clone Wars series (2008-2020) fills in enormous amounts of story between Episodes II and III, develops Ahsoka Tano, and contains some of the best-regarded Star Wars storytelling ever made. It is a large time commitment at around 54 hours, but fans almost universally consider it essential for appreciating the full canon. The calculator's Jedi Master and above tiers include it.

What order should I watch Star Wars for the first time?

Most first-time viewers enjoy either Release Order (IV, V, VI, I, II, III, VII, VIII, IX) or Machete Order (IV, V, II, III, VI, VII, VIII, IX, skipping Episode I). Release Order is the simplest choice. Machete Order preserves the Darth Vader twist and cuts the weakest film, but some viewers miss the context Episode I provides for Anakin's background.

How long is the Mandalorian?

The Mandalorian Seasons 1-3 together run approximately 8 hours (480 minutes) across 24 episodes. Episode runtimes vary but average around 35-45 minutes each.

Can I do a Star Wars marathon in one weekend?

The Padawan package (all 11 films, about 27 hours) fits into a long weekend if you watch 8-9 hours per day across three days. The Youngling package (9 Skywalker Saga films, about 22 hours) is achievable in two long days. Use the daily hours input to find the pace that works for you.
