Snap Score Calculator

Snapchat keeps its exact scoring formula secret, but community testing reveals that your Snap Score rises by roughly 1 point per Snap sent, 1 point per Snap opened, and 1 point per Story posted, with additional credit for active streaks and returning after a break. Enter your activity numbers below to get an estimated score, a breakdown of what is driving it, and your approximate engagement tier.

Cumulative Stories you have posted to your Story feed. Viewing others Stories does not count.
The length of your longest active Snap Streak in days. Streaks add a small ongoing bonus to your score.

Estimated Snap Score: 5,730 - Casual user (1,000-9,999)

  • Snaps sent and received account for about 96% of your score (5,500 points), and Stories add another 3% (200 points).
  • Your send-to-receive ratio is balanced (3,000 sent vs 2,500 received), which is ideal for steady two-way score growth.
  • Your 60-day streak contributes an estimated 30 points. Maintaining streaks with multiple friends multiplies this effect.

Next stepAt this stage, sending Snaps to more friends every day is the fastest way to grow. Aim for at least 5-10 photo Snaps per day.

What is a Snap Score and how is it calculated?

Your Snap Score is a running total that Snapchat displays next to your username on your profile. According to the official Snapchat Support page, it is "determined by a super-secret, special equation that combines the number of Snaps you've sent and received, the Stories you've posted, and a couple other factors." Snapchat deliberately keeps the exact formula private, but years of community testing have produced a reliable approximation: roughly 1 point for every Snap you send, 1 point for every Snap you open from a friend, and 1 point for every Story you post. Active Snap Streaks appear to generate a small ongoing bonus, and returning to the app after a long break has been observed to produce a one-time credit of around 100 points.

What counts toward your score and what does not

Only photo and video Snaps move the needle. Text chats, voice calls, video calls, and viewing others Stories all contribute zero points. Similarly, saving Snaps to Memories or posting Spotlight content does not seem to add to your score. The actions that matter are: (1) sending a Snap to any friend (+1 per recipient who opens it), (2) opening a Snap sent to you (+1 per Snap), and (3) posting to your own Story (+1 per post). Snapchat+ subscribers gain a 2x Snapscore Multiplier, but it applies only to exchanges with other Snapchat+ users, so the effective gain depends on how many of your friends also subscribe.

How to increase your Snap Score quickly

The most efficient strategy is to send genuine photo or video Snaps to as many friends as possible every day, because each recipient who opens your Snap returns a point to you as well. Posting a Story daily adds another point at almost no extra effort. Maintaining Snap Streaks with your closest contacts compounds both totals over time. If you have been away from the app for over a month, simply opening it and sending a Snap can yield a return-from-break bonus. Avoid text-only chats if your primary goal is a higher score; they are enjoyable but score-neutral.

Snap Score accuracy and Snapchat+ effects

This calculator produces an estimate. The underlying formula is a proprietary algorithm that may include weighted factors, occasional algorithmic adjustments, and account-age effects that are impossible to replicate without insider access. In practice, most users find the community-consensus weights (1 point per Snap sent, 1 per Snap received, 1 per Story) accurate to within a few percent for typical account histories. Snapchat+ adds a 2x multiplier on Snap exchanges with other subscribers, so heavily social Snapchat+ accounts will tend to accumulate points faster than the base estimate predicts.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Snap Score?

A Snap Score is a cumulative number displayed on your Snapchat profile that reflects your overall activity on the platform. It grows every time you send or open a photo or video Snap, and every time you post a Story. Snapchat keeps the exact calculation private, but community research consistently shows it is driven primarily by sent and received Snaps.

Does sending a Snap to multiple people count as one point or several?

Community testing suggests that sending a single Snap to multiple friends via the multi-send feature earns you roughly one point per recipient who opens it, not just one point total. This makes mass-sending the same Snap to several friends one of the quickest ways to build your score.

Do text messages or chats count toward my Snap Score?

No. Only photo and video Snaps count. Text messages, voice calls, video calls, and chat reactions earn zero points. The score is specifically designed to reward visual Snap exchanges, which is why Snapchat calls them Snaps rather than messages.

Why does my Snap Score sometimes not update immediately?

Snapchat processes score updates in batches, so there can be a delay of anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours before your score reflects recent activity. This is normal behavior and not a sign that your Snaps are not being counted.

Can my Snap Score go down?

No. Snapchat has confirmed that there is no way to lower or reset your Snapscore. It can only stay the same or increase. If you notice a drop, it is most likely a temporary display glitch that resolves on its own.

What is the average Snap Score?

Snapchat does not publish average score data. Community benchmarks suggest that scores between 50,000 and 100,000 represent roughly the 75th percentile of active users, and scores above 1,000,000 place users in the top 5% of the platform by engagement. A score below 10,000 is typical for casual or infrequent users.

Does Snapchat+ give you more Snap Score points?

Yes, but only partly. Snapchat+ includes a 2x Snapscore Multiplier that doubles the points you earn when swapping Snaps with other Snapchat+ subscribers. If most of your friends do not have Snapchat+, the practical effect on your overall score will be modest.

Can I see someone else's Snap Score?

You can see the Snap Score of friends who have accepted your friend request, but only if they have not set their score to private in their privacy settings. Strangers and non-friends typically show no score.
