ACFT Score Calculator
Enter your results for all six Army Combat Fitness Test events and this calculator returns your score for each event (0-100 points), your total out of 600, whether you pass, and which MOS physical demand category you qualify for. Scoring is age- and gender-normed using the official March 2022 Army standards. Results update as you type.
What is the ACFT?
The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) replaced the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) as the U.S. Army's official fitness standard in April 2022. It tests six physical domains relevant to combat performance: muscular strength (3-Rep Max Deadlift), explosive power (Standing Power Throw), muscular endurance (Hand-Release Push-Up), anaerobic endurance (Sprint-Drag-Carry), core strength (Plank), and aerobic capacity (2-Mile Run). Each event is scored from 0 to 100 points for a maximum total of 600 points. Scores are normed by age and gender, so the performance required for each point level varies by bracket.
How the ACFT is scored
Each event has a minimum passing score of 60 points and a maximum of 100 points, based on performance benchmarks at the 5th and 96th percentile within each age and gender group. To pass the overall test, a soldier must score at least 60 points in every single event AND reach a minimum total that matches their MOS physical demand category (360 for Moderate/Gold, 440 for Significant/Gray, 440 for Heavy/Black). Scoring below 60 in any one event is an automatic failure regardless of how high the total is. Between the 60-point minimum and the 100-point maximum, points scale linearly with performance.
The six ACFT events explained
The 3-Repetition Maximum Deadlift (MDL) uses a hex bar and tests raw lower-body and posterior chain strength over three repetitions. The Standing Power Throw (SPT) measures explosive power by how far you can toss a 10-pound medicine ball backward over your head. The Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP) is a 2-minute muscular endurance test where you fully lower to the ground and release your hands between every rep. The Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC) is a 5-leg shuttle over 50 meters combining sprinting, sled dragging, lateral shuffles, kettlebell carry, and a final sprint. The Plank (PLK) is a static hold that measures isometric core endurance. The Two-Mile Run (2MR) is the traditional aerobic fitness measure performed at the end of the test.
How to improve your ACFT score
The biggest score gains usually come from focusing on your weakest events first, since each event contributes equally to the total. For the MDL, progressive deadlift programming with correct hex bar form is key. SPT improves with medicine ball throws, plyometrics, and hip-dominant power work. HRP benefits from consistent push-up volume and grip endurance. SDC speed improves with interval sprints and sled pulls. The Plank responds well to dedicated core work (hollow-body holds, loaded carries). For the 2MR, structured aerobic training 3-4 times a week with both easy and tempo runs produces the fastest improvement. The Army's Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program provides event-specific training plans.
ACFT MOS Physical Demand Category Standards
| Category | Color Code | Minimum Total | Min Per Event | Example MOS Types |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moderate | Gold | 360 | 60 | Admin, finance, legal |
| Significant | Gray | 440 | 65 | Artillery, aviation, MI |
| Heavy | Black | 440 | 70 | Infantry, SF, combat engineer |
Soldiers must meet the minimum total and per-event scores for their MOS category. Failure in any single event is an automatic failure.
Frequently asked questions
What is a passing ACFT score?
The minimum passing score depends on your MOS physical demand category. For Moderate (Gold) MOSs, you need at least 360 total points with a minimum of 60 points in each event. For Significant (Gray) and Heavy (Black) MOSs, you need at least 440 total points, with per-event minimums of 65 and 70 points respectively. Scoring below 60 in any single event is an automatic failure, even if your total is high.
Is the ACFT gender-neutral?
No, since March 2022 the ACFT is both age- and gender-normed. The performance required to earn a given point score varies between male and female brackets and across the 10 age groups (17-21 through 62+). This means a 25-year-old female and a 25-year-old male will need different raw performances to earn the same point score, similar to how the old APFT worked.
What is the maximum ACFT score?
The maximum possible ACFT score is 600 points, which requires scoring 100 points in each of the six events. Reaching 100 points in an event means meeting or exceeding the 100-point performance benchmark for your age and gender bracket. Scores of 540 or above are generally considered elite.
Can I retake the ACFT if I fail?
Yes. Army policy allows soldiers who fail the ACFT to retake it. The specific retake policy, waiting period, and number of allowed attempts can depend on the command and circumstances (for example, whether the failure was performance-based or due to an injury). Soldiers placed in the Army Body Composition Program may face additional requirements.
Does the ACFT affect promotions?
Yes. ACFT scores factor into the Army promotion system. Strong performance (particularly meeting the Heavy/Black category standard of 440+ points with 70+ per event) can earn promotion points and is viewed favorably in evaluation reports. Repeated failures can impact advancement and may result in administrative action.
What is the SDC and how is it performed?
The Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC) is a 5-leg, 250-meter shuttle event. Soldiers sprint 25 meters and back, then drag a 90-pound sled 25 meters and back, then perform a lateral shuffle 25 meters and back, then carry two 40-pound kettlebells 25 meters and back, and finally sprint 25 meters and back. It is timed, and a lower time earns more points.
How does linear interpolation work for scoring?
Each event has a 60-point performance benchmark (minimum passing) and a 100-point benchmark (maximum) specific to your age and gender. If your performance falls between those two values, your score is calculated proportionally: 60 points plus 40 times the fraction of the way from the 60-point mark to the 100-point mark. Performance below the 60-point mark earns fewer than 60 points and results in a failing event score.
