1 crore = 100 lakh

  • 1 crore equals 100 lakh (10 million internationally).
  • The absolute value is 1,00,00,000.
  • In the Indian numbering system, each step up multiplies by 100: thousand, lakh, crore, arab, kharab.

Next stepTo convert to US dollars or another currency, multiply the absolute value by the current exchange rate.

Formula

Lakhs=Crores×100Crores=Lakhs100Lakhs = Crores × 100 \quad\Leftrightarrow\quad Crores = \dfrac{Lakhs}{100}

Worked example

1 crore = 100 lakhs = 10 million = 0.1 billion. So 2.5 crore = 250 lakh = 25 million = 0.25 billion.

Crore and lakh in the Indian number system

The Indian numbering system uses two groupings not found in the Western system: the lakh (100,000) and the crore (10,000,000). After the first three digits, numbers are grouped in twos instead of threes, producing the sequence ones, thousands, lakhs, crore, arab, kharab. One crore equals exactly 100 lakhs, because each step in the Indian system above the lakh multiplies by 100. This is why you simply multiply or divide by 100 to move between the two units. The system is widely used across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, and appears routinely in financial reporting, real estate prices, government budgets, and everyday commerce.

Converting crore to lakh - the formula

The conversion is a single multiplication: Lakhs = Crores x 100. For example, 5 crore becomes 5 x 100 = 500 lakh. Going the other direction, divide: Crores = Lakhs / 100, so 750 lakh = 750 / 100 = 7.5 crore. When working with rupees, the same formula applies unchanged because the currency unit does not affect the place-value relationship. A property priced at 1.25 crore rupees is therefore 125 lakh rupees.

How crores compare to millions and billions

Journalists and financial analysts often need to translate between Indian and international notation. One crore equals 10 million (1 cr = 1 x 10^7 = 10 x 10^6). One hundred crores equal one billion (100 cr = 1 x 10^9). So if a company reports a profit of 50 crore, that is 500 million or 0.5 billion in international terms. Conversely, a US company reporting 1 billion in revenue has earned 100 crore. This calculator shows all four formats together - lakhs, millions, billions, and the raw absolute number - so you never need a separate conversion step.

Common uses for this converter

Real estate listings in India almost always show prices in lakhs or crores of rupees, and the same figure may need to be communicated to an international investor in millions. Corporate annual reports, stock market data, and government budgets switch between the two systems depending on audience. Salary figures are often quoted in lakhs per annum, while total company valuations are quoted in crores. This tool handles all of those conversions in one place, including the full Indian system breakdown through arabs and kharabs for very large numbers.

Frequently asked questions

How many lakhs are in one crore?

Exactly 100 lakhs make one crore. This is because 1 lakh = 100,000 and 1 crore = 10,000,000, and 10,000,000 / 100,000 = 100. The formula is simply: lakhs = crores x 100.

How do I convert crore to million?

1 crore = 10 million. Multiply the crore figure by 10 to get millions. For example, 3.5 crore = 3.5 x 10 = 35 million. To go from millions to crores, divide by 10.

What is 1 crore in billion?

1 crore is 0.01 billion (one hundredth of a billion). Since 1 billion = 1,000,000,000 and 1 crore = 10,000,000, dividing gives 0.01. So 100 crore = 1 billion.

What does INR 1 crore look like in full?

Written out, 1 crore is 1,00,00,000 (Indian format) or 10,000,000 (Western format). It has 7 digits and 7 zeros when written as 10 million.

How many crores make one arab?

100 crores make one arab. The arab is the next step up in the Indian number system: 1 arab = 1,000,000,000 = 100 crore = 10,000 lakh = 1 billion.

Is lakh spelled "lac" or "lakh"?

Both spellings are accepted. "Lakh" is the standard English transliteration used in India and in most financial documents. "Lac" (or "lac") appears as an abbreviation, especially in South Asian real estate listings and informal writing. The pronunciation and value are the same either way.
